06.08.10 – What to do on a drizzly day? Max and I hit the Finnish Museum of Natural History, University of Helsinki, located a short walk (like most things in Helsinki) from my neighborhood in Töölö. The museum consists of four floors in a beautiful building which was once the Russian Gymnasium, a secondary school which prepares students for university, possibly soldiers based on the photographs. The museum was recently renovated between 2005-08 and it shows. Each floor has a number of artful exhibits based on Finnish nature, world nature, the study of bones (birds, fish, monkeys, etc) and archeology (dinosaurs). Not only is it a comprehensive collection but the way it’s displayed is very visually creative and bursting with color.
