10.09.10 – Ok, this was just my first stop at the Helsinki Design Museum. It’s basically in my neighborhood so I’m sure I’ll be spending many a rainy day there. There were three exhibits when I was there; Fashion Photo Helsinki, Oiva Toikka – Moments of Ingenuity and a permanent exhibit called Finnish Form. The pictures above are from the Oiva Toikka exhibit. Oiva Toikka is a designer for Iittala and the exhibit is a 50 year retrospective of his work.
I’m looking forward to going back just to see the permanent exhibit on Finnish Form which had several pieces which illustrated the different periods of Finnish design over the course of the last 100 years. They showed everything from bowls and plates to early examples of Nokia phones. Cool stuff! The even have a tour every Tuesday at 11:30 called The Story of the Finnish Design in 30 minutes.
