16.10.10 – No matter how old I get, I never get tired of army surplus. I have to add to my arsenal of warm weather gear because the temperature is dropping faster than the economy did last year. I consider myself very tech savvy but when it comes to finding things to buy on the web… it can take some time. What’s up with that? I was having trouble finding a store in Helsinki that sells cool hats but Facebook came to the rescue. I was checking up on everyone on Facebook when one of those annoying ads in the right column caught my eye. The ad was for an army surplus store, Varusteleka, in Helsinki. Max and I now had a program for our Saturday.
The store wasn’t too difficult to find but it was on the outskirts of the city. As usual, it’s not difficult how to get their by public transportation. Helsinki’s public transportation is top-notch and I have a great iPhone app, ReittiGPS, which gives me the options and times for the available options. Getting to the general vicinity isn’t the problem but then finding out the exact building can be interesting. We fumbled around for a bit but finally found the place off the road and behind some trees. It should have been obvious, there was a stream of young guys heading to what looked like a warehouse.
Max still wouldn’t give into trying things on. I was looking for hats and gloves but he was interested in gas masks and AK-47s. It was fun anyhow and I ended up finding a couple of hats. One I’m not so sure I’ll wear out but it’s cool.
